Choosing from the Firewall Appliances range
Sizing a firewall appliance
Port count and link speed are only the beginning. Realistic sizing starts from encrypted throughput: how much traffic must pass VPN tunnels or TLS inspection, how many concurrent users and services the box will carry, and which packages — IDS/IPS, proxies, DNS filtering — will run alongside routing. AES-NI support and NIC controller choice (Intel controllers are preferred by the BSD-based firewall community) matter as much as core count.
Software compatibility
Models in this family are widely used with pfSense, OPNsense, VyOS, Proxmox, and mainstream Linux distributions. Compatibility must still be validated per model and release — network controller, Wi-Fi module, and storage mode all affect driver support. Tell us the software and version you intend to run and we will confirm fit before quoting.
Form factors
