Building an M-Bus network

M-Bus (EN 1434 / EN 13757) is the standard bus for reading heat, water, gas, and electricity meters in buildings and district networks. This family covers the full chain: physical-layer converters (M-Bus to RS-232/485, Ethernet, TTL, GPRS), repeaters for long or heavily loaded segments, protocol gateways to Modbus, and intelligent collectors with local storage.

How to choose

Start from the load count — each meter presents a standard M-Bus load, and converters are rated for 100, 250, or more loads. Then decide how data leaves the building: serial into a PLC or BMS (choose an RS-485 converter or Modbus gateway), IP into SCADA or a cloud platform (Ethernet converter), or cellular for unmanned sites (GPRS gateway). Repeaters extend distance and split large networks into manageable segments.

Integration support

Configuration and test software is available across the family, and mixed networks (different meter brands and baud rates) are a solved problem when the topology is planned. Describe the site — meter count, distances, and target system — and technical sales will propose the component set.
