Selecting a rackmount enclosure

1U to 4U server enclosures for infrastructure builds: firewalls and network appliances in 1U–2U, general compute and storage in 2U–4U. Steel quality, EMI design, and airflow architecture separate enclosures that survive years of continuous duty from ones that do not.

How to choose

Fix the constraints first: rack depth, motherboard form factor, PSU standard (ATX, CRPS, redundant), and expansion-slot count including half-height limits in low-profile units. Then plan drive bays and front-panel I/O. If the build must travel or ship assembled, prioritize rigid chassis construction and captive components.
