Expanding capacity with JBODs
A JBOD enclosure adds drive bays to an existing server through SAS expansion, without another motherboard to manage. It is the standard way to scale backup targets, media archives, and surveillance retention beyond the head unit’s bays.
How to choose
Match the expander backplane and external SAS connectors to your HBA, confirm cascade depth if chaining multiple shelves, and plan for redundant power where the array must survive a PSU failure. Rack depth and airflow direction should match the head server’s rack.
